The Syracuse/Onondaga Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission provides the Clear Minds Clear Messages media campaign every year to local students throughout Onondaga County, since the campaign's conception in 1992.  This media project is an educational vehicle for local educators and youth providers to further instruct about the benefits of "Healthy Choices/Healthy Lifestyles", as well as the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.  It also provides information about media, media education and media literacy. Clear Minds Clear Messages provides students with the opportunity to create their own anti-drug media messages.  This combination of substance abuse education and the production of youth-created media messages has been found to be a "best practice" in drug prevention.  The media messages selected in the county-wide judging are professionally produced into posters, billboards, editorials, radio and televison PSAs, t-shirts and postcards which are then posted throughout the county.
